Selinunte
Looking for sea and culture while in Sicily with children? Choose the beautiful and serene Selinunte to experience an ancient culture in the biggest archeological park in Europe, while your children enjoy the outdoors.
Selinunte is on the south west coast of Sicily and the park which is home to the ancient temple is even bigger than the archeological park of Agrigento.
The Selinunte archeological park is open every day, including public holidays, from 09:00 until 20:00; the cost of entrance is €6, under 17s enter for free. The park is vast and can be explored using electric trains which will tempt you to make the climb as soon as you arrive. If you prefer the walking tour instead, we recommend that you avoid the hottest times of the day.
After the cultural tour, you can have a leisurely day by the sea. The beaches of Marinella di Selinunte, apart from being beautiful and clean, are also ideal for children as the water level remains low for at least 40 – 50 meters from the shore, which makes it a lot easier for you to keep an eye on your little water sport lovers.
We recommend La Pineta beach and Zabbara beach is also very beautiful, from which you can enjoy a great view of the acropolis. Be careful however, as there as some stretches of rocky seabed close to the shore (some suitable shoes may be useful for protecting your children's feet).
