Beaches recommended by paediatricians
The Sicilian coastline is almost all spectacular, with striking colours and crystal waters, but which are the best beaches for children?
A beach suited to children in Sicily should be sandy, so that children can play without hurting themselves, it should have public services such as picnic areas, bathrooms and restaurants and obviously it should be clean.
Here are 20 Green Flag Sicilian beaches, as recommended by pediatricians. In first place is the Ragusa province with 9 beaches. Let's start with three sandy beaches, one after the other: Casuzze, Punta Secca and Kaucana. Without doubt the most famous of these is Punta Secca, as seen from the famous terrace of Inspector Montalbano. The other beaches on the Ragusa map are Ispica, Santa Maria del Focallo, Pozzallo, Pietre Nere, Scoglitti and Marina di Ragusa.
In the capitol province of Palermo, the Green Flag is pointed at the beach of Cefalù. An enchanting place although perhaps it is a bit too crowded in the sunny season to enjoy a peaceful day at the beach with the kids.
Trapani province has five beaches recommended by paediatricians. First of all is in the well known town of San Vito Lo Capo that receives tourists from all over the world, especially during the week of the Cous Cous Festival. The massive crowds could also be problematic here, but the sandy beach is so vast you are sure to find a spot. The other four beaches are Marsala, Signorino, Torretta Granitola and Tre Fontane.
There is also a Green Flag for the beach of Porto Palo in Menfi, in the province of Agrigento. Here you will be amazed by the sand which seems like talcum powder. Turning to the east coast, paediatricians have recommended Vendicari beach at Siracusa and three beaches on the island of Lipari, one of the Aeolian Islands: its three Green Flags are for Marina di Lipari, Acquacalda and Canneto
